St. Joseph’s University first-year MSW students embarked on an enriching 7-day rural immersion camp at Snehagram, fulfilling their syllabus requirements to deeply engage with village life. Students resided on-site, embracing self-cooking with local ingredients to experience daily rural routines. They learned village life firsthand through interactions, observing agricultural cycles, water challenges, and community bonds. A street play highlighted social issues like sanitation and education, captivating villagers and sparking discussions.
Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) sessions mapped community needs and strengths collaboratively. A health camp provided free check-ups, hygiene workshops, and medical aid, addressing key rural health gaps. The camp built empathy, practical skills in community mobilization, and insights into sustainable development, preparing students for impactful social work.
