Traditional firewood stoves and the call of “Pongaloooo” signaled the start of a harvest celebration rooted in gratitude.
Pongal was celebrated at Snehagram with active participation from the entire community. The Pongal pot was placed over a traditional wood fire in the open courtyard. As the milk boiled over, students joyfully shouted “Pongaloooo,” marking prosperity and abundance.
Sweet and savory Pongal were prepared using freshly harvested vegetables from the campus farm. Sugarcane was shared among residents, reinforcing the harvest spirit. The cows were washed, decorated, and blessed in recognition of their role in agriculture.
Food preparation became a collective effort, reflecting self-reliance and respect for rural traditions. The celebration highlighted the value of farming, shared labour, and gratitude for what the land provides.
